A gentle, powerful approach

Support Your Nervous System Through the Power of Sound.

The Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP) is a research-informed, music-based listening intervention developed by neuroscientist Dr. Stephen Porges and based on Polyvagal Theory. It uses specially filtered music to support the nervous system, helping the brain and body become more responsive to cues of safety.

SSP may support emotional regulation, resilience, focus, sensory processing, and social connection—without the need to verbally process difficult experiences.

How Does the SSP Program Work?

Polyvagal Theory helps us understand how our nervous system responds to the world around us. When our brain and body sense safety, we’re better able to feel calm, connected, and engaged with others. When we perceive stress or danger, our nervous system may shift into a protective state, leaving us feeling overwhelmed, disconnected, or even shut down.

The Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP) uses specially filtered music to engage the auditory pathways involved in processing sound and supporting nervous system regulation. By helping the nervous system become more receptive to cues of safety, SSP is designed to support emotional regulation, resilience, and our ability to connect with ourselves and others.
